(drum roll please)

It's time for a...

I'm very excited to be able to exchange ideas with some of America's finest teachers through blogging! I want to thank each of my 30 followers for expressing an interest in my blog! That being said, the giveaway will be for...

With it being Teacher Appreciation Week, I feel that you totally deserve to get yourself something special (or at least have free reign in what you get!). What better place than Amazon?!? (I'm such a huge fan!)

Here's how it will work:
Leave a comment with...
  • a statement that you are a follower of my blog.
  • your plans for what you will purchase with the gift certificate.
  • a link to a blog post (by you, of course) about this giveaway.

Additional Entry:
Share your favorite math activity that you do with your students (comment or leave a link to your post).

This giveaway will end Saturday, May 7th at 10:00 p.m. (CST). I will then randomly pick one winner. Good luck and again, I thank for your support! :D

  11. One activity to get my math kiddos energized about math fluency is addition snap. You take a deck of cards, remove face cards and jokers. Shuffle up and deal out (2 players). Each player does not look @ their cards. Make a stack and both players flip over their top card at the same time. The first to say the sum (or product) of the two cards keeps them. The player with the most at the end wins. You will love it and your students will love it :)

  17. My favorite math activity to do with my class is Around the World- the flash card drill game. It has been around since I was a kid but my students get so excited about it. I love to see them play- they are so funny trying to blurt out the answer first! We love math games!

Oh and with the Amazon gift card I would buy some more picture books to use for minilessons.

  20. One of my favorite things to do with my students are dice games. Currently my 3rd graders are working on memorizing their multiplication skills, so they are using dice to multiply numbers together. I have a recording sheet so I can totally tell which students were actively playing and which were being too social. Additionally, this gives me time to provide smaller group instruction to the students who need it- and the other kids are so busy they hardly notice (embarrassment is a huge factor in my classroom).

*If you're interested in the recording sheet, let me know. I got it from ProTeacher, but would be happy to pass it along! :)

  21. Katie- I have a new spin on around the world. It's the same concept but in a tournament style. Make two lines and have them line up single file facing you. You hold up the card and the two students at front say the product. First to say it goes to the back of the line and the other has a seat. Do this until you have a winner. Sometimes all my students in one line will be out so I'll be left with only one line. In this case, I make two lines out of the remaining students. The kids love it... even more than the traditional around the world. Give it a try :)

  26. One of my favorit math activities that I have done the last couple of years is our Area/Perimeter Zoo. I give them the area/perimeter dimensions for about 6 animal areas and they need to draw these on graph paper that has been enlarged. Then they can add extras such as a play area for kids and food stand. The kids love it!
